The false dawn was still blushing the horizon above Naboisho when two Ilkisiausiau pride females arrowed through the oat grass towards an eland family. Their initial skirmish failed but unusually they immediately tried again and the young antelope, confused by a mass of hyenas ahead hesitated, fatally. It was promptly dragged down by the triumphant females. They had their prize for around ten seconds before it was pillaged by sixty (60) hyenas who ploughed into them and tore into this fresh early breakfast.

Ten minutes later, not to be outdone, the young male lions from the twenty (20) strong pride charged into the melee and reclaimed the now much reduced spoils. Watch and LISTEN to this video. It is deafening.

Perfect light, perfect positioning before the pride flounced off, sulkily slaking their thirst and then returning to their leafy day home, right past Johnson, Twala and Mika’s Toyotas.
