It’s game on for another season across four Conservancies and our four Kicheche camps.
Fortunately, we were spared any damage during the reported rains last month. We were keen to help by donating towards relief projects in Nairobi and the Masai Mara.
As the sun shines again, our camp teams are fired up following a fantastic pre-season pow-wow with our camp managers, head chefs, and guides. In this forum, we exchanged our thoughts and ideas and introduced new initiatives to drive the Kicheche guest experience to new levels.
We then sprang into action with Kicheche Mara hosting it’s first Long Run EA forum of which you can read more about below.
Conserve and see with The Long Run EA
The Long Run is a global tourism community devoted to sustainability. Collectively, they conserve over 23 million acres of biodiversity and improve the lives of 750,000 people. We were honoured and thrilled to host their East Africa 2024 meeting at Kicheche Mara Camp.
This was held over several days and was enormously inspiring and motivational.
Our director and co-founder Greg Monson, and MNC General Manager Philip Valentine, both shared the evolution of Mara North. Future plans specificially with advanced cattle management were highlighted as this is crucial to the success of this beautiful conservancy.
The Mara Elephant Project’s general manager Torsten Cadot then entertained us relaying this organisation’s recent successes.
Sustainably rebooted and deep-rooted
There was tree planting and a tour of our own shamba, headlining our farm to fork policy. After the recent rains, it is looking more fertile than ever.
Culture & Community
Kicheche’s Lepishoi and Lydia delivered an illuminating talk on the many changes within the Masai community. This preceded a practical beading session in the new Mazingira lounge, where everyone learned about the significance of colours in Masai culture. They also emphasized staff empowerment, engaging the members to ensure sustainability is embedded throughout our business.

Stargazing into a New Season
Finally, the meteorological gods lent a hand by providing a sparkling (full) moonrise with clear skies. This was amplified by the wonderful people from The Travelling Telescope. They enabled everyone to examine this planet in detail they will never have seen before.
These celestial spectacles symbolise a new season with a bright future ahead, reflecting the optimism and enthusiasm we carry into the coming months.
