Kicheche Walking Wilderness FAQs

Yes. Guest safety is the top priority at Kicheche Camps. Every walking safari is conducted with: 

  • professional Kicheche safari guide 
  • An armed ranger trained in professional rifle handling 
  • support safari vehicle that remains nearby throughout the walk 

No. This experience is designed to be flexible. If you feel tired or would prefer a break at any point, you are welcome to hop into the safari vehicle and continue the journey in comfort. 

A lightweight fly-camp, staffed by a cook and a camp hand, with small dome tents for 2 people equipped with camp beds, bedrolls, chairs and a washstand. Simple bathroom facilities are available (long drop toilet and bush shower). A lightweight mess shelter will be used in the event of rain. Your luggage will be carried in the support vehicle and we recommend that you separate your required baggage prior to departure. 

Yes. Showers are provided using a 20-litre canvas bucket filled with hot water on request. The bucket is connected to a shower head with an easy on/off toggle. If you prefer warm rather than very hot water, simply let your guide know — they’ll happily adjust the temperature. 

We recommend the drier months, when walking conditions across the conservancies are at their best. Fly-camping is an exclusive experience for a maximum of six guests and is strongly recommended to be booked in advance. 

  • Fly-camping is recommended for guests aged 16 years and above 
  • Children aged 12–16 years may participate at the discretion of the guides 

We recommend: 

  • Sturdy walking shoes or boots 
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing 
  • A hat and sun cream 
  • Binoculars 
  • A small, light backpack (optional) 
  • Water (provided, but you’re welcome to carry your own bottle) 

Walks begin at 14:00 (2:00 pm). This allows you to reach the fly-camp in daylight, with enough time to settle in and shower before nightfall. As this is often the warmer part of the day, please dress accordingly and carry sun protection. 

For guests who normally live at sea level, the altitude can make the walk feel more demanding. The pace is gentle, with regular stops, but we recommend keeping this in mind as you prepare. 

reasonable level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy this experience. Walking, running, cycling, or other cardiovascular activities are excellent ways to prepare for your safari on foot. 

The walk is spread over two days, with an afternoon walk on Day 1 and a morning walk on Day 2. Each session lasts approximately three hours, depending on your pace and what you encounter along the way. 

Yes. This safari is reversible, meaning you can begin at either Kicheche Valley Camp in Naboisho Conservancy or Kicheche Bush Camp in Olare Motorogi Conservancy, depending on your travel plans and preferences.
