Hyenas divide opinion, that will never change but as a species their family characteristics are fascinating, second only to elephants. They are also not uncommon but that all changes when spots change to stripes (never thought I’d ever write that).

A striped hyena is a very different proposition: better groomed and turned out than its sometimes shabby spotted cousin and also extremely hard to find. Enter Simon Alepel Lomelo, the striped whisperer, not happy with just a brief glimpse of this precious quarry, he located a den …with two cubs.
To any faunal aficionado this is pretty close to the wildlife grail: a magnificent family in their well-appointed home which they will occupy for a while through all weathers. Simon and his team look forward to showing you round their dirty den.
