Francis Saruni is a high plains sorcerer specializing in high carat spotted gems from the dusty but delightful plains of Mara North. Charming, funny and calm, he is on first-name terms with seemingly every animal and indeed Maasai in this priceless Conservancy.
This week he has outdone himself as have the Mara Camp team as they have found their favourite daughter: Nalangu. On granite. With tiny cubs. Plural.
Not content with that, Saruni then found her majesty bringing a huge lizard into her stony lounge.
Leopard cubs are hard currency and Nelangu is a Queen not ready to abdicate her throne to the upstart Natito and her boy. Her reign has been twelve years and as this wings its way into laptops and phones she sits on her lofty throne with her two dark, spotted princes.
Thanks Saruni, you magician and thanks all the team there, this is big news. And Jenny and Graham, thrice postponed, but three leopards. Welcome back!
In the morning the early sun will gild these three bodies, think about that … a faunal narcotic only available to Mara North subjects. Sights like this are pretty close to witchcraft.
Long live the queen.
