When Valley Camp royalty like Bernard Soit exclaim they have never seen a particular eagle before, you know you are talking twitching nobility. All were bewildered by the majesty of this titled bird, so to confirm this feathered patrician, an image was quickly sent to an expert: a sagacious faunal doyen who has written many venerable wildlife tomes and forgets more about ornithology in a weekend than most of us will ever know.

Imagine our surprise as he sent a lexicon of avian commoner answers but none of them correct. We are not demanding abdication, but perhaps a spell in the tower with the ravens or at least a trip to Specsavers.

A crowned eagle, perched on its imperial fever-tree throne and later gorging on one of its subjects!
Our expert’s crown has slipped this week …….. although his recollection may vary …
