Acres of caustic prose have been written about 2020, Spot of the Week has no intention of adding to this pile of cynicism. Right now a savage storm is ripping across the Mara Conservancies leavening already fertile grasslands. In Laikipia lions are dragging down a buffalo, before parading across the highlands in front of both Mt Kenya and some indifferent white rhino.

There has been enough time for reflection, looking ahead is more productive. The lions rumbling from the distant escarpment are actually just reminding the empty plains that they are here and are going nowhere. Just like Kicheche.
Nothing has been easy in 2020 but despite the unfenced wildness of these protected areas, there is surely nowhere safer right now. This will not change.

Cats, cubs, ruminants, ungulates and feathered patrons are still performing their familiar yet still exciting antics guarded by the sentinels of a thousand years, the giraffe and elephants. Right now the latter are hoovering up the nutritious grass ………….. the best vac’s seen since Pfizer …. Happy … New Year.
